Bernat Sport 2 oz Balls – 1

Knitting Needles size 1 and 3

Crochet Hook – B

Gauge

7 stitches = 1 inch

10 rows = 1 inch

Notes

Directions

 

Using No 1 needles, cast on 112 stitches. K 2, P 2 in ribbing for 3 inches.

DEC ROW: *K 2, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row – 84 stitches.

Change to No 3 needles and P 1 row.

Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 6 inches.

SLIT: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows cast on 10 stitches.

Continue in stockinette stitch on 84 stitches until piece measures 7 inches, ending with a P row.

K the next row, dec at even intervals to 77 stitches.

Work even until piece measures 9 inches, ending with a P row.

K the next row, dec at even intervals to 70 stitches. Work even until piece measures 10 inches, ending with a K row.

K the next row to reverse stockinette stitch and continue in reverse stockinette stitch until piece measures 11 inches.

On next row dec 8 stitches evenly spaced and repeat this dec every 10th row 3 times more and every 4th row 4 times – 6 stitches. Break off yarn, draw end through sts on needle and fasten off securely.

FINISHING: Sew side seams, having seam on right side of ribbing and on P side of both stockinette st and reverse stockinette st sections Block. Turn up ribbing to form cuff and tack to right side. With right sides facing you, work 1 row of sc around slit. Turn back the reverse stockinette section of cap and bring up through slit. Finish with tassel.

TIES: (Make 2). Make a chain 18 inches long. Sl st in 2nd st from hook and in each st across chain. Fasten off. Sew to each side of cap.
